Having never previously deployed I wasn't quite sure what to anticipate. I knew it would be dangerous, just wasn't quite sure exactly how dangerous. This little incident happened to hit a little too close to home. I never thought I'd have to utilize our Combat Stress Clinic, until today.
One of the protocol they adamantly preach to us is "constant vigilance". Always keep your head on a swivel, looking for anything that appears abnormal. Insider threat is a real danger out here. On a continual basis and generally in the middle of the night, the Taliban "let us know" they are still alive and active. But what I experienced today was an incident, an insider attack I certainly never expected.
ATTACK OF THE HAJJI TOILET PAPER......... Not knowing when the Taliban will attack is one thing, but living with the fear of this, is nearly more than I can tolerate. Can you even imagine the "crappy" outcome if I hadn't been in "constant vigilance" mode? This is exactly how the paper was dispensed. This place is dangerous!!
